A Verse For Volunteers

Thank you to Shelter Receptionist Harriet for composing a little festive rhyme celebrating our wonderful volunteers and all the work they do to support the Shelter throughout the year. Thank you Harriet and especially thank you to all those fabulous people who give their time to us, we love you all.

As the festive period begins,

It’s  the time the whole world sings,

Although things are merry and bright,

Of our cause, we musn’t lose sight.

Our devoted helpers, to deal with all the capers,

From the bottom of our hearts,

To the dog beds in parts,

The cats strutting, the charity shop girls bargain hunting.

Helping the kids get creative,

Your really are a native.

Education the next generation,

Can secure many a donation.

Having a stall at the annual fair,

Let’s face it, it’s all about the welfare.

Selling raffle tickets at the festive evening,

The results leave us beaming.

Your rattle the collection tins,

When all you want really is your din dins.

Heading up the lane with your dogs in festive jumpers,

Kitted out in your finest colours.

You small animal cuddlers,

Hamster hustlers, looking after our crazy critters.

To the eyes behind the camera lens,

You really do produce some gems.

To the people that give up their own Christmas,

To give out the dog biscuits,

To clean the kennels and hand out brussels.

As we open our gifts this year,

Some pets are living in fear.

And as we toast our family and friends,

We can only hope to make ammends.

When you step through the shelter doors,

We should really give you a round of applause.

And although there aren’t enough days in advent,

We know they have been well spent,

You are our stars shining bright,

Like a twinkling Christmas tree light,

You bring joy and meaning to animals’ days,

Hoping they will no longer be strays.

There are not enough words in this lifetime,

That can ever repay your free time.

Each of you are special and cherished,

But please don’t be embarressed.

‘Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone’

And for that, our volunteers can’t be outdone!
