Volunteer Profile: Charity Shop

Charity Shop Volunteer: Rose

What is your volunteer role and what does it involve?

I work in the Shelter Charity Shop on Thursdays, serving the public, sorting donations and anything else that needs doing. Sometimes I’m ironing, others I’ll be sorting out the bookshelves or changing the displays, it’s very varied.

Why did you decide to volunteer?

I had time on my hands and I wanted to put it to good use!

What is the most rewarding aspect of your volunteering?

We are always updated on how much money the shop is making for the Shelter, and knowing that I’m helping make such a big donation is a fantastic feeling.

Tell us about a highlight of your volunteering.

The people I work with are fantastic, we’re busy but there’s always time for a coffee and a chat. It’s great to be part of a team all working together, not just the people on my shift but all the volunteers.

How has volunteering helped you personally? What does it mean to you?

I look forward to doing my bit on a Thursday. It keeps me busy and I love meeting people and seeing my colleagues. It’s a highlight of the week.

What’s the one thing you would tell someone about volunteering?

If you have spare time, us it productively and volunteer! There are so many charities crying out for volunteers, find one that is special to you and get involved.
