Light up their lives Christmas Appeal
As Christmas draws near, we celebrate the joy animals bring
From the wag of a tail to the comfort of a purr, pets light up our lives with their love. But for homeless animals, the festive season is just another cold, uncertain time.
Our Light Up Their Lives Christmas Appeal is here to help change that.
With your support, we can bring warmth, care and hope to every animal who comes through our doors – helping them heal, feel safe, and find the loving home they deserve.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps light up the life of a pet in need this Christmas.

Barbie is a young dog but has already faced more than her fair share of hardship.
With your help, Barbie’s future looks bright
When Barbie first arrived at the Shelter, this beautiful lurcher was thin, nervous and unsure of the world around her. She’d been found as a stray after fending for herself for months, and when she came through our doors, she barely dared to lift her head.
Our teams found that she was frightened of sudden movements and didn’t even know how to play – what she needed most was patience, kindness, and time to feel safe again.
So, we started slowly – gentle walks, soft words, and scent work games that let her explore at her own pace. As her confidence grew, Barbie began to show her playful side. She discovered the joy of toys and even made a special friend – a stuffed toy dog that she’s become very attached to!
Barbie is finding happiness again thanks to the kindness of supporters like you.
This Christmas, please support our Light Up Their Lives Appeal so that we can provide the behavioural support more dogs like Barbie need.
Star’s treatment, surgery, and medications cost £1,200.
Thanks to your support he will spend this Christmas in a loving home.
You helped little Star shine bright again
When little Star arrived at our vet clinic he weighed barely 1.5 kg – a tiny scrap of a kitten with the biggest eyes and the bravest heart.
The dog attack that Star endured had resulted in him being in terrible pain, his right front leg was limp, swollen, and he could barely move.
His leg bone was not just fractured but broken and there were bone fragments scattered into the surrounding muscle. Star was urgently prepped for surgery, which was undertaken by a specialist team.
His tiny front leg bone was repaired using a locking compression plate and screws to bridge the gap where bone had been lost. The surgeon carefully worked around the bone fragments that had come away and saved them where possible, cleaned the wound, and closed it with delicate sutures.
The operation was a success – but Star’s road to recovery had only just begun.
This little kitten received regular pain relief, antibiotics, and gentle physiotherapy to help his leg heal. Because his injuries were severe and he was very young, one of the vet nurses fostered Star and nursed him back to health at home.
Over the weeks that followed, a bond developed between Star and his foster mum, and now he has been permanently adopted.
If you can, please support our Light Up Their Lives Christmas Appeal, so that we can say yes when pets like Star need us.
Your support this Christmas helps us continue a century-long promise: to be here for the pets who need care, comfort and love.
On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and all the animals whose lives you help to brighten – thank you for standing with us, and for lighting up their lives this Christmas.
