Behaviour talks

We offer a range of dog behaviour talks throughout the year where our experts discuss a variety of behaviours and offer practical tips.

We run a range of talks at the Shelter throughout the year, led by our expert team.

The talks focus on common dog behaviour challenges and practical, positive training techniques you can use at home.

We’re passionate about helping owners feel confident handling and training their dogs safely and effectively. Our regular talks cover a variety of topics, including reactivity, recall, resource guarding and loose lead walking.

Each session is delivered by our qualified behaviourists and experienced animal care assistants, with plenty of practical advice to support you and your dog.

Understanding dog reactivity

This workshop is aimed at those who want to learn more about the motivations behind dog reactivity and ways to work around it. The workshop will mainly be focused on dog-to-dog reactivity with hints and tips on how to manage this behaviour through practical and theory-based teaching brought to you by our behaviour team.

You will learn topics such as reactivity body language, trigger stacking, the motivations behind your dog reacting to other dogs – and so much more!

You will also learn different ways to focus your dog with mentally stimulating games such as find it, counter conditioning, and name conditioning.

This workshop will run for 2.5 hours (with light refreshments provided!) and you will leave with an information pack which will include a special offer on one-to-one consultations with our behaviourists if you would like further help and support for your dog(s).

Understanding posessive behaviour

Does your dog not like to share? Are they possessive towards resources such as, toys and treats? Your dog may be resource guarding. Resource guarding is when a dog becomes defensive in order to keep people, or other animals away from a particular resource. Resources can be food, treats, toys, beds, certain places, favourite items, and even a person.

This workshop is aimed at those who want to learn more about resource guarding and tips on how to manage this behaviour through practical and theory-based teaching brought to you by our behaviour team.

You will learn topics such as how to manage resource guarding behaviours, tips to prevent resource guarding behaviours worsening, advice on how to work with resouce guarding- and so much more!

You will also learn training techniques to help with resource guarding. The session will include demos with a rescue dog, however the dog participating will not be a resource guarder themselves. The session will include videos to demonstrate the body language of dogs while resource guarding.

This workshop will run for 2 hours (with light refreshments provided!) and you will leave with an information pack which will include a special offer on one-to-one consultations with our behaviourists if you would like further help and support for your dog(s).
