Lurcher, age 4 years 4 months
Ozzy came to the Shelter in June 2023 after becoming too strong for his elderly owner to walk safely. Arriving at just 18 months old, it was clear that this bright young lad had missed out on some of the training and guidance he needed – but our team quickly saw just how much potential he had.
Since then, Ozzy has made incredible progress. Through patience, consistency and lots of positive reinforcement, our team has taught him how to walk nicely on a lead, respond brilliantly to clicker training, and enjoy enriching scent games like ‘find-it’ to help channel his energy. Thankfully, Ozzy is very food motivated, which makes training both rewarding and fun for him!
Ozzy is full of life and character, guaranteed to bring laughter and companionship to the lucky people who adopt him. His greetings can sometimes be a little enthusiastic – he occasionally forgets just how big he is! – but once he settles, he is an incredibly loving and loyal companion who forms strong bonds with the people he trusts.
One of Ozzy’s favourite things in the world is playing with tennis balls, closely followed by solving puzzles for tasty treats and relaxing with his carers while enjoying a good chew.
He has come on leaps and bounds during his time at the Shelter, and we truly believe that with the right home and someone willing to give him a chance, Ozzy will make a fantastic best friend.
What our Oz’s carers say about him
Oz is a loving and clever boy who brings so much fun and energy to every day. He absolutely adores people and is always excited to see his favourite humans, greeting them with endless enthusiasm and affection. Full of personality, Oz would thrive with an active family who can match his energy, continue his training and give him the time and patience to fully settle into home life.
This handsome lurcher is happiest when he has something to do, whether that’s learning new skills, exploring on walks or chasing after a tennis ball. In fact, if Oz had his way, he’d spend all day playing fetch! He’s also a big foodie who loves snacks and long-lasting chews, making him wonderfully motivated and great fun to train.
Oz is an incredibly smart boy who picks things up quickly and genuinely enjoys learning. We love watching his confidence grow and seeing how brilliantly he responds to new challenges, especially when taken off-site for walks and adventures. During his time at the Shelter, Oz has been working on scent games to encourage him to use his powerful nose, and he’s doing brilliantly with his training. He already knows commands including sit, paw and down, and is always eager to learn more.
Oz just needs someone willing to give him a chance, and in return they’ll gain a loyal, entertaining and affectionate companion who will throw himself wholeheartedly into family life.
