Hopping back to Countrytastic!

April 2nd 2026 saw the CAS team return to the Three Counties Showground for the family event Countrytastic, marking our third year attending and continuing to share a vital message about rabbit welfare and education.

With up to 6,500 visitors expected across the day, our dedicated staff and volunteers were kept busy offering advice and practical tips on caring for rabbits and understanding their needs.

Rabbits remain the third most popular companion animal in the UK – and one of the most neglected – making this a valuable opportunity to reach a wide audience.

This year, we introduced five engaging activity zones, each highlighting one of the five welfare needs of rabbits: Companionship, Diet, Behaviour, Housing and Health. Children and families created their own rabbit ‘companion’ masks before visiting each zone – feeding their bunny the correct diet, making enrichment toys, learning about appropriate housing, and finishing with a hands-on ‘health check’ using role-play veterinary equipment.

We were also joined by some of our beautiful rescue rabbits, who enjoyed a spacious, enriched run where they could hop, hide and display natural behaviours – showing visitors exactly what good rabbit care looks like.

Behind all the fun was an important message: rabbits have complex needs, and improving our understanding is key to tackling poor welfare and outdated myths around their care.

If you’d like advice or support, or want to better understand your bunny, our team is here to help at smallanimals@gawa.org.uk.
