This year marks a truly special milestone for Cheltenham Animal Shelter: 100 years of caring for animals in need.

Our Centenary Raffle is a wonderful way of supporting the animals at the Shelter. There are amazing prizes to be won, including a 1st Prize of £500, other cash prizes and a fantastic range of vouchers for days out and activities.

When you purchase raffle tickets you help us care for every animal who comes through our doors – and you could win one of these great prizes!

Some pets arrive having been nurtured, but changes in family circumstances mean they must be signed into our care. Others arrive from low-welfare situations; through ignorance, lack of resources or cruelty, they come to us with complex needs.

Recently, we’ve taken in pets from low-welfare situations who have multiple health issues, including flea allergy dermatitis, bacterial skin infections, ear and eye infections, serious dental disease and unexplained masses requiring investigation. Tragically, one dog had already developed advanced kidney failure!

Josie the Chihuahua needs your support

Josie the Chihuahua is the tiniest of pups, weighing less than 1kg. When she came to us, she was about seven weeks old, but we can’t be sure, as she was found in a layby. We don’t know how long she had been there, but the weather that week was cold and wet.

We’re not sure why Josie was left, but we think she was put there by someone who knew it would be difficult to sell her, as on inspection, we could see that she was cross-eyed, had an abnormal stance, and potentially had other issues.

The first few days with Josie were worrying as she required urgent veterinary attention after having a seizure.

We were worried that this would be an ongoing issue so she was monitored closely. Every day and night without seizures was a good sign – we could see that this cheeky, funny little pup is a fighter.

Your support will help cats like Twilight and her kittens

Twilight arrived with her five, three-day-old kittens. She had a skin infection, multiple missing teeth, and persistent conjunctivitis. While the infection has cleared, she has low tear production and will need lifelong eye medication.

Very sadly, two of Twilight’s kittens died. The exact cause is unknown, but when a mother is unwell, her kittens are often vulnerable too.

The three kittens have now found homes of their own, and we hope that four-year-old Twilight will soon find a forever home with a family willing to continue her eye drops four times a day.

With your support, we can give Josie, Twilight, and all the animals who come to us from low-welfare backgrounds, a chance of the happy life they deserve. Their needs are often complex, but with expert medical treatment, time, patience and plenty of love, we know we can transform many of their lives.

Please consider entering our raffle – it’s a fun and easy way to support our work, and you might win a wonderful prize.
